  1. What is the scientific name of the cat family?

     

  2. How is the structure of the paw similar in all cats?

     

  3. How are the eyes of all cats alike?

     

  4. What is the main food of the cat family? How are the cat's teeth fitted for this?

     

  5. Of what use are the cat's whiskers?

     

  6. How are the cat's ears protected?

     

  7. Identify from picture or personal observation four kinds of domesticated cats. Describe each one's temperament.

     

  8. Of what benefit to man are domesticated cats?

     

  9. Identify from pictures or personal observation seven kinds of wild cats. Tell in what part of the world they are found.

     

  10. What anmial is known as the king of beasts? What big cat in North and South America is known by several names? Give at least four of these names.

     

  11. Tell the story of Androcles and the Lion.

     

  12. Relate four stories from the Bible in which a member of the cat family is mentioned.

    • Felidae or Felis

     

  2. How is the structure of the paw similar in all cats?
    • 5 toes front, 4 back, retractable claws, soft pads

     

  3. How are the eyes of all cats alike?
    • Wide open in the dark, slits during the day; back of the eye is coated with a reflecting surface

     

  4. What is the main food of the cat family?
    • Meat
    How are the cat's teeth fitted for this?
    • Four front canines (biting and tearing), knife-edged teeth on sides (cutting skin and muscle)

     

  5. Of what use are the cat's whiskers?
    • Connected to sensitive nerves, and act like extra fingers for feeling things

     

  6. How are the cat's ears protected?
    • Hairs inside the ears, ears can be folded down flat

     

  7. Identify from picture or personal observation four kinds of domesticated cats. Describe each one's temperament.
    • Siamese
    • Manx
    • Persian
    • Shorthair

    • Catch mice, friendship, used in China and Japan to protect silkworm cocoons from rats

     

  9. Identify from pictures or personal observation seven kinds of wild cats. Tell in what part of the world they are found.
    • Lion - Africa and the Gir forest in India
    • Tiger - Asian mainland, Malaysia, Indonesia
    • Mountain lion - North and South America
    • Jaguar - Mexico and South America
    • Leopard - Africa and southern Asia
    • Ocelot - Mexico and South America
    • Bobcat/wildcat - Canada to Mexico (also called a bobcat)
    • Lynx - Canada and Alaska
    • Cheetah - Africa and southern Asia

     

  10. What anmial is known as the king of beasts?
    • Lion
    What big cat in North and South America is known by several names? Give at least four of these names.
    • Puma, catamount, painter, American lion, Indian devil, mountain lion

     

  11. Tell the story of Androcles and the Lion.
    • Slave Androcles runs away, pulls a thorn out of lions paw and becomes his friend. Both are captured and sent to Rome to fight in the amphitheater. When neither will fight the other, the emperor lets both go free.

     

  12. Relate four stories from the Bible in which a member of the cat family is mentioned.
    • Samson and the lion, David killed a lion and a bear, Daniel's dream of the lion with wings and leopard with four heads, lion killed a disobedient prophet, Benaiah killed a lion in a snowy pit, calf and the lion will lie down together in heaven, can a leopard change his spots?
